What can I do if my device stops responding or hangs?

What can I do if my device stops responding or hangs?

In this case, a residual current discharge (power supply reset) can help.
Tip: Performing a residual current discharge/ static discharge can help if your product has any of the following symptoms:

  • Devices react slowly or delay.
  • USB devices (such as mouse & keyboard) are not recognized.

Various electronic components in your device can store small amounts of power. This can lead to temporary issues.

With the residual current discharge/static discharge these components are discharged and the issues are thus often resolved.

  • How can I tell if the battery is removable?

  • This can usually be seen on the bottom of your device. If you have an unlocking bolt, as shown in Illustration 1 then the battery should be removable.

But if it is a continuous surface as in Figure 2, then the battery is internal and cannot be removed.

If you still not sure if the battery is removable or not then please check your devices user manual.
  • Products without battery (TV, receiver, audio systems, PC, etc.)

  • Example using a PC
    1. Shut down the PC.
    2. If your device has a mains switch, switch it to 0 or OFF.
    3. Remove all connection cables.
    4. Then press the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge the residual current from all electronic components in the product. If your product does not have a power button, just wait 5 minutes.
    5. Reconnect only the essentials, set the main switch to 1 or ON and restart your product.
  • Products with removable battery (notebook etc.)

  • Example based on a notebook with removable battery
    1. Turn off your device.
    2. If your device has a mains switch, switch it to 0 or OFF.
    3. Remove all connection cables and remove the battery.
    4. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
    5. After that, first connect the AC adapter without replacing the battery.
    6. Set the power switch to 1 or ON and restart your product.
    7. To check the function of the battery:
      • Turn your device off again.
      • Remove the power adapter.
      • Insert the battery again.
      • Reboot your product.
  • Products with firmly installed battery (convertible etc.)

  • Example using a convertible
    1. Please disconnect all connected external devices (eg USB sticks, Bluetooth dongle, printer, etc.) as well as the power supply and leave your device switched on and / or use it until it switches off by itself so that is the battery is completely discharged.
    2. Do not plug in the power adapter yet, first hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge the residual current from all electronic components.
    3. Then charge the device with the power adapter for at least two hours continuously.
    4. Turn it back on and use it as usual.
