medion GmbH Data Privacy Policy

Last revised May 2018

Thank you for visiting MEDION (medion GmbH, Am Zehnthof 77, 45307 Essen). We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and want you to feel secure when using our website and our products. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions on the subject of data protection with reference to MEDION.

1. Basic principles

Your personal data are collected, processed and used in strict compliance with statutory provisions and the principles of good faith. We conduct our business processes so that data protection requirements are taken into account from the outset, and we anonymise personal data wherever possible.

2. Sources and data

We process personal data received directly from you or legitimately obtained from public sources or other third parties, insofar as these data are required for the provision of services and the agreed purpose.

We store your data to process orders, enable product use or services (e.g. repairs) and – if you choose – to process payments. These include address details, date of birth (for age verification) and payment-related data. Order details (item, quantity, price) are linked to your address. In many cases, MEDION is legally obliged to collect these data (e.g. under the German Youth Protection Act or the Fiscal Code).

3. Purpose of processing and legal basis

Processing is carried out under the GDPR and the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG):

  • Contract fulfilment (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Trade in products and services, repairs.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): Direct marketing, market research, IT security, legal defence.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): Marketing and group‐wide data sharing (revocable at any time).
  • Legal obligations/public interest (Art. 6(1)(c)/(e) GDPR): Identity/age checks, tax reporting.

4. Transmission to third countries

Data are transferred outside the EU only if necessary for order processing, legally required, or with your consent. We ensure an adequate level of protection via EC adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

5. Storage periods

Your personal data are stored only as long as necessary for contractual or legal obligations. Afterwards they are deleted unless required for evidence preservation under limitation periods (up to 30 years) or statutory retention (2–10 years).
