Hello @acharris_77  and welcome to the forum.    Before starting the investigations do some simple check. In device manager see the wi-fi adaptor and make sure there is no power saving plan. Example (although i'm sure there is not same wi-fi card) Other than that, if you have administrator access to BT router you can try to see if is any power save set there as well. I'm just saying this because I did had lots of problems with BT routers in this settings area.  WI-FI stability test can be run with a big download on Steam as that client have a graphic display of downloading progress.  Still, I suspect a power save issue.   Connection loss could occur as a result of power management plan (on wi-fi card or/and router) while low or no traffic.   Cheers.     ... Welcome to community @JLedbury    If you have a 2.5" bay empty it's safe to install a SSD there (or HDD for what matters). As for specs, don't worry. Pick any SATA  SSD and plug it. The SATA standards are build with backward compatibility. In other words, if it fits, it works. Pick any SATA3 2.5" SSD according to your budget (try to stay under 4Tb capacity to avoid further complications) and keep in mind that over 80% usage of space affect the performances. I know where you are coming from.  I have been doing this sort of thing for many years, and I concur, Windows can be a total dog's dinner and messages are not always what they seem. It is many years since I let any 'third party' software anywhere near my Registry for 'clean-up' purposes.  Not on my Systems. The Laptop has not shown any problems at all since the last updates which triggered these System Errors in the Event Logs, but I am keeping an eye on it.  As a Nerd I always want to know why, but am content if I know I can ignore it 🙂 Anyway, thanks for the comments.  Appreciated... ... Good to know, and congratulations on choosing to upgrade. Windows updates works a lot with processor and RAM in background mode (by default windows allocates low resources for updates and it takes time even on very fast machines) To any case, if you did cloning thing, try to consider resizing the system partition C and create a secondary one for storage. Modern games are coming with lots of files (20,000 or even more than 40,000) and keeping them in same place with windows which also bring from 100,000 to 400,000 files might lose a bit from performances. For example, I have 300,010 files on my C drive (no games nor personal files are stored there) and took 102 sec to read the header for all the files (that counts for search function).   Cheers ... In this thread was mentioned that the proper RAM frequency according to CPU is 2133MHz and any attempt to change that will make the system unstable at the best (FUBAR at the worse if something goes wrong with the bios update).  It might not be the information you were hopping but there are accurate.   Other than that, the feeling of new ram being slower can be from high latency (CAS).   Good luck. ... With a 64 GB SSD mobile connected SSD its even cheaper.   Just make use of the USB stick, if necessary, to start the portable copy of AOMEi Backupper. With this you can restore your image from the SSD to the new drive if you have to swap it. And here you see the crux of the problem. Shutting down the exe causing the game not to be able to run is the very first thing I tried. Yes it worked and I could launch the game but then my laptop doesnt have the fans working as intended. This lead to the laptop after 20mins of gaming shutting down without any notice from (what I assume is) overheating due to not being able to use its control center. I did explain this in the original post but yeah, I have tried this a few times, tried using work arounds like MSI afterburner and FAN control. but they do not allow me us interact with the fan in this model because (from what I could find online) its a laptop and the fans cant be moderated by those programs. Hi @gbakas , welcome to the forum   To solve the overheat problem on my laptop (different model) I use a FPS limit under nVidia control panel. As result from +90°C now it works at 60-84°C without loose of performance or any kind of stuttering. I also added a cooling pat which overall drops about 5°C    Hope that helps. Cheers   ... @Reinout welcome to the forum,   Your problem as you described is 100% related to the photo editor. Just as well as I get same "insufficient memory" error on my editor but I admit I'm too stubborn to replaced with a more updated version. In my case there's the program settings which explains the errors   That RAM usage is set for all the work space including 10 levels of undo and I was ok 15 years ago when a picture was about 200kb.  Try a different photo editor or update the existing one for 64bit OS and if you find a RAM limit preference set it up to at least 16 GB. That would solve the problem. Even if you have only 8Gb installed windows will manage to allocate as much as the program needs using pagefile.sys As for adding more RAM, yes, same memory bank will spare you of any troubles. What you need to consider is frequency and latency. See what you have installed and search technical info to find a match. Manufacturer is not important as long is same MHz and same CAS (latency).   Cheers ... View more

Hello again @sweetpoison    I did now send the pc in and got it back, and had a few days of tetsing it. The pc was "formatted and updated drivers" during the service, was totally free of charge too, which was great. However, they said there was nothing wrong with it.   That was until a irl friend of mine mentioned he had some odd issue with his desktop pc, where he would connect his monitors into the hdmi + dp ports on his pc, and the screens would turn off randomly. Thats when i thought, wait, i have 2 dp ports in use + 1 hdmi with my 240 hz screen. And apparantly there seems to be a common issue combining 240+ hz screens thats connected to dp's with 60 hz screens connected to hdmi too. So i unplugged my HDMI screen and just sticked with using 2 dp screens, and would you not belive it....its now been 7 days and absolutly no issue!   So in short, the issue was simply that i couldnt connect a hdmi screen into my pc, while there was already dp screens connected to it, i belive its linked to the fact that the other dp screens are beyond 60hz, i could be wrong, but surely this was the issue. Weird, but im atleast extxremely glad it got solved. Currently, im ordering a 3rd screen (dp) so i dont need to ever use that 3rd hdmi screen, and can use it as a tv screen instead.   Just thought of letting you know @sweetpoison  thanks a bunch for your time and help! and hopefully this thread can help others who get a simular issue! ... Two things I said are based on experience and turns out I know what I'm talking about (actually all of them but let's focus on 2 only).   1. You can use one single dual channel memory bank on a MB which support dual channel. It will work as single channel with focus on "it will work". I didn't say it's won't be any difference, I suggested to test and see if it's worth the money considering that if what you have is a single channel you might need to buy 2x16 gb banks). An ingame test will tell if it's worth to invest in 2x16gb ram vs 1x16gb in terms on cost vs gain.   2. There is no such thing as identical configurations when it comes about laptops from different brand. Each laptop use a specific BM and a specific heat management system, both counting for performances.   More than that It's pointless to come with additional proof although I can provide specific info about a game where if I leave the video card to fork for max frame rate (>200 fps) creates stutter every time I move the character or rotate camera. Limiting the FPS to 100 solve all problems and also keep the GPU at decent temperature. Hi @Murtagh00 , welcome to the community   To begin with, I can't provide any information about the warranty because of no affiliation with Medion (I'm just a regular customer). Since you already open the case you can check how much access do you have to the radiator's heat sink and to the fan in order to so some cleaning because I believe that is what made a slight temperature increase. For cleaning as air compressed spray would do as long as you can prevent the fan to spin when blowing air. About the thermal paste/pads the 7 months use does not justify the replacement unless you have some "easy to read" signs like starting stuttering in apps which where not doing that before (including windows post loading when you the mouse is "jumping" instead of smooth movement) and increased the overall temperature with occasional trigger of overheat protection. From my experience a thermal paste should hold at least 18 months while a thermal pads will do for much much longer. Related to your case, make sure you get rid of windows ballast (temp files, old updates, old windows versions) and a radiator and/or fan cleaning would do the trick. Back up all your date from original M2 Drive on a external drive big enough and use a close software like AOMEI Backupper to create a disk image (that will include the hidden partitions as well). When you create the image make sure you save it on external drive. Same software allow you to create a boot USB with the program in order to restore/clone your ssd. Once you create the bootable usb and have the ssd image saved on usb disk replace the m2, boot from bootable usb, connect the external disk which contain the image and select restore disk from image. Do not let the program to resize the partitions. Once it's all done go to windows disk management and create a new partition from the empty space.   So, you need to have ready a usb stick to be made bootable and an external usb drive big enough to hod your documents and the original ssd image. Assuming GPT (as sweetpoison mentions), then as big as anything available that fits the Device (SATA/M.2/Etc.) and what your pocket can afford. 2.5" x 100mm x 7mm SATA SSD I think is 8TB (Samsung) at the moment.  For M.2 SATA I think it is 2TB and M.2 PCIe NVME 8TB. One thing you can be sure of is capacities for SSD's increasing dramatically. Probably a bit late to comment, but anyway. I use a P7651 (MD 60806). i5-8250-U, DDR4 RAM, GTX 1050 4GB. I did not buy it for DAW use.  I have a Desktop System for that.  I use Cubase Pro 10. But I thought I would try it out as it can be convenient to use the Laptop from time to time, and I was curious to see how it performed. I fitted the Laptop with 16GB RAM and larger SSD's. Using the onboard Audio Adapter is hopeless even with ASIO4ALL. However, the performance was transformed using the Steinberg UR22 USB Audio Adapter and can cope with large Projects with fairly heavy VST use.  Audio Monitoring Latency (i.e. recording Electric Guitar) is more of an issue and to a lesser degree MIDI Keyboard, depending on the amount of VST and their demands.  Some are very demanding, others not quite so much. I wouldn't want to use it as the workhorse but I found it works better than I had expected. The key seems to be keeping the Audio Buffer fed without interruption, but there are a variety of reasons that can be compromised even if all the Hardware is decent or even more than necessary.  It can be a bit of a minefield.
