Hello @weebilly and welcome, In battery mode, the device operates at reduced power to achieve a longer runtime. In mains mode, however, you have full power and therefore more waste heat, which causes the fans to run. If they are running at full speed and are clean, but the device still overheats, I assume the waste heat is not being dissipated properly. This would be a sign that the thermal paste from the CPU/GPU processor to the cooler has dried out. This prevents the heat from being dissipated properly. Consequently, it overheats.
