@Fishtown although I bought the laptop in the UK (I wanted a UK keyboard) the expansion port and cable were bought locally so I was able to return them for checking when the problem first occured. Medion could not find any problem but still sent me a new expansion port and cable but they still did not work. The local repair shop identified the problem as the the socket but were unable to get it working. I can't attest to their competence, it is the only time I have used them.

@FishtownI checked the BIOS and I do not see either ErP Ready or usb power delivery. Where do I find these? The laptop charged originally over the USBc socket and stopped about 2 years ago. I have not made any changes to the BIOS at any time. Is this something that could have been changed by some form of automatic update? Thanks.

@Fishtown I am sure it is not in the power settings, I have checked them. I had not thought of the BIOS settings and am not even sure how to get to them. I will have a look tomorrow.

I missed the warranty period by a long way. I tried a local repair shop but they were not able to fix the problem. I just have to live with this.

I just tried upgrading to Windows 11 but this broke the keyboard again. As I did not like other aspects of Windows 11 (icon sizes, task bar, file explorer line spacing, etc. which don't seem to be adjustable in Win 11, at least it did not work on my system when I tried to correct them, reminiscent of the problem a year ago) I have rolled back the upgrade without looking at the drivers, so I don't know which version Windows 11 was using. Note that the restore files to roll back to Windows 10 are only available for 10 days. After that you would have to do a clean install.

@PathMan thanks for the warning. So far mine has remained on 2.2.1.383 but I guess a Windows update in the next day or two will update this and break my keyboard also. I hope when they get to 2.2.1.385 they will have fixed this.

@daddle interesting that the versions of Windows are the same but the Device Manager looks fairly different (ignoring language). I guess most of the differences are because mine is a touch-screen laptop. But what is definitely different is the number of entries in the HID group: Why do I have so many copies of some drivers? Is there any benefit in removing duplicates? And if so, how do I deceide which to keep? Thanks!

@PathMan Did you also have problems with the icon spacing on the task bar and the line spacing in File Exporer? I wonder how many more people have had this problem.

@PathMan Assuming this is the same problem, the issue is not with the keyboard driver but with the Intel(R) HID Event Filter. What version do you have of this driver? The most recent is 2.2.1.384, but this version did not work on my Akoya, I had to roll back to 2.2.1.383. The roll back should be available from the Device Manager, Human Interface Devices, then double click on the Intel(R) HID Event Filter entry and select the Driver tab. Roll Back Driver is one of the buttons there. Good luck! @daddle @toryglen

@daddle is there any (easy) way to report the problem with version 2.2.1.384 of the HID Event Filter driver? It does not seem to be a common problem, is there any point reporting it? But Toryglen and I cannot be the only ones experiencing this. Thank you for your help with this issue. @toryglen

@toryglen glad you are making progress. It is an obscure problem that I would never have solved without @daddle's advice. A big thank you to him. CAB files are just a compressed folder, like zip. If you have 7-Zip you can open them to see the contents. The Intel HID Event Filter CAB contains three files called hideventfilter.cat, hideventfilter.inf and hideventfilter.sys.

@toryglen I went to https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=intel+hid+event+filter as suggested by @daddle. If you click on the Last Updated column heading it will sort newest to oldest. The 2.2.1.383 driver is near the bottom of the first page. There seems to be many versions on that site, I used the first.

@toryglen Mine is working normally now. I have not noticed any other problems. When I go to device manager and check the driver version it shows 2.2.1.383, dated 2020-08-10.

@toryglen sorry to hear you still have problems. Perhaps you can download and install the 2.2.1.383 driver from the site daddle gave? If you click on Last Updated it is near the bottom of the first page.

@daddle @toryglen When I try to update the driver it tells me that the latest driver is installed. I have now rolled back the driver to the previous version, 2.2.1.383, and so far this seems to be working. (No double letters in typing this reply!) Thank you.

@daddlethanks for the suggestion. I have found and downloaded version 2.2.1.384 but I am afraid I don't know how to install this. Can you please instruct me? I can find two folders C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\ hideventfilter.inf_amd64_xxxx.. containing the three files I just downloaded, but also containing another file with the extension .PNF that is not in the download. I note that the newer of these folders is dated 2021-02-01 which would coincide with when the problems started. Thanks for the help.

@toryglenthe problem with the line spacing and icon spacing is from the settings for the touch screen. Go to Settings, System then select Tablet on the left and Change additional tablet settings on the right. In the additional settings switch off the options under When I'm not using tablet mode. This worked for me. I got this from a Microsoft forum thread.

Hi @Gehringer, I have not tried that, I was hoping for a less drastic solution. My data is safe (I back up over my home network) but restoring all the apps and accounts would take a lot of time. If I don't find a simpler solution I may have to do this. Thanks.

I have a problem with my keyboard and hope someone can help. Recently I had an update to my VPN fail. The installer automatically rolled back the installation, but this did not complete correctly and, after rebooting twice I noticed various problems with my notebook. I have succeeded in resetting the icon spacing on the task bar and the line spacing in File browser, but I have a problem with the keyboard occasionally repeating characters as I type. Usually it only repeats one character but occasionally it will repeat the last two characters so that for example "the" comes out as "ththe". I know my typing is not perfect but this is much more frequent that before and I never repeated two characters like this. I have tried changing the repeat key delay setting in Windows but it does ntoto help. [I left ntoto in as an example that just happened, I mistyped not as nto (a common mistake for me😁) but it came out as ntoto]. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Thank you. I already contacted the local Medion service centre but they told me I must take the laptop back to the UK where I purchased it. Because of COVID 19 I can't do that at the moment and can only hope that I am able before the warranty runs out.

It transfers data to the port expander. I have since bought a USBc hub that has a LED - the LED does not light when it is plugged into the power USBc but does light when it is plugged in to the other USBc socket. The socket must be faulty.

I have an S4403-MD61325 (MSN30025973) for which I also have a docking station MD87905. For about a year I have used the docking station over the USB Type-C cable to charge the notebook but it stopped charging. Thinking that the docking station was faulty I returned it under warranty and was informed it was unrepairable and it was replaced. But the new docking station also does not charge the notebook. This makes me think that the charging system within the notebook might be faulty, although it charges without problem from the jack socket using the small power supply that came with it, or the USB-C socket might not be connecting correctly. I have no other USB-C device to test it with or to try charging from so I do not know how to diagnose the problem. The Medion Service App failed to complete (after 18 hours) so I have no diagnostics from that. Has anyone else experience a similar problem or have any suggestion how to resolve this? My apologies if this is already in the forum, I could not find it.
