The monitor image flickers, which setting do I have to change?

Question

The monitor image flickers, which setting do I have to change?

Answer

Image flicker usually only occurs with digital monitors if an incorrect screen refresh rate is set.

First, check the monitor's manual for the optimal screen refresh rate (usually 60 Hertz).

You can then check and change the current value as follows:

For Windows 7, Windows 8

  • Right-click on a free area of the desktop
  • Choose "Screen resolution"
  • Click on "Advanced"

For Windows 10

  • Right-click on a free area of the desktop
  • Choose "Display settings"
  • In the next dialog box, click on "Advanced display settings"
  • Then "Display adaptor properties for Display 1" (or the corresponding number if you are using multi-display mode)

Monitor Settings:

The settings dialog is then the same in all versions.

  • Click on the "Monitor" tab
  • Select the correct "Screen refresh rate" from the list

⚠️Note for high-end monitors⚠️

If high repetition rates such as 120 or 144 Hertz cannot be set, check the manual to see if you are using the correct cable.
For example, some HDMI cables cannot transmit these refresh rates.
