Keyboard problem S4403

I have a problem with my keyboard and hope someone can help.

Recently I had an update to my VPN fail. The installer automatically rolled back the installation, but this did not complete correctly and, after rebooting twice I noticed various problems with my notebook. I have succeeded in resetting the icon spacing on the task bar and the line spacing in File browser, but I have a problem with the keyboard occasionally repeating characters as I type. Usually it only repeats one character but occasionally it will repeat the last two characters so that for example "the" comes out as "ththe". I know my typing is not perfect but this is much more frequent that before and I never repeated two characters like this.

I have tried changing the repeat key delay setting in Windows but it does ntoto help. [I left ntoto in as an example that just happened, I mistyped not as nto (a common mistake for me😁) but it came out as ntoto].

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Thank you for that extra insight.

I'm still not having any luck with the typing issue.

I have inadvertly deleted one of the keyboard driver - needless to say this never solved anything.

@daddlethanks for the suggestion. I have found and downloaded version 2.2.1.384 but I am afraid I don't know how to install this. Can you please instruct me?

I can find two folders C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\ hideventfilter.inf_amd64_xxxx.. containing the three files I just downloaded, but also containing another file with the extension .PNF that is not in the download. I note that the newer of these folders is dated 2021-02-01 which would coincide with when the problems started.

Thanks for the help.

@AndrewP

You have to install via the device manager --> Update driver

Or it reads the data from the cab file, or you first have to decompress it eg with 7zip.

@daddle @toryglen  When I try to update the driver it tells me that the latest driver is installed. I have now rolled back the driver to the previous version, 2.2.1.383, and so far this seems to be working. (No double letters in typing this reply!)

Thank you.

Glad it has worked out for you.

I am still having issue.

Even tried an uninstall.

But no joy.

I don't have the option of roll back.

Looks like I will have to try a complete reinstall from scratch,

and re-install all my apps.

Long day ahead.

Thanks for keeping me informed

@toryglen  sorry to hear you still have problems. Perhaps you can download and install the 2.2.1.383 driver from the site daddle gave? If you click on Last Updated it is near the bottom of the first page.

Unfortunately I’ve started from scratch. (Recovery USB)

If I encounter problems (hopefully not),

Thank you for helping me out.

I will come back when I am up and running again

I am still having issues with this (double letter) typing.

I started from scratch, did a full recovery - now just a basic pc.

I tried installing 2.2.1.383 drive, to over ride 2.2.1.384,

The strange thing is the zip file may say 2.2.1.383,

but the actual driver version that is extracted is 1.1.1.318 (Intel(R) HID Event Filter)

Even with this, I am still double typing letters, even when I am precise with my typing.

it even occurs when I go the the command prompt!

is your laptop typing okay.

@toryglen

Mine is working normally now. I have not noticed any other problems.

When I go to device manager and check the driver version it shows 2.2.1.383, dated 2020-08-10.

Thanks for replying

Can you tell where you downloaded from?

I tried two separate sites, claiming 2.2.1.383,

but when checked after unzipping, I’ve only got 1.1.1.318.

I appreciate any response, in advance.
