How do I create Windows installation media for Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Microsoft offers the free Media Creation Tool for download (Windows 10, Windows 11), which can be used to legally and conveniently create installation media on DVD or USB stick.
After clicking Download tool now, you can save the software.
Run the downloaded program, confirm the license terms and choose the option that creates an installation media.
If the medium is not to be created for the computer currently in use, the check mark for Use recommended options for this PC can be removed and a selection made for language, edition and architecture (32-bit, 64-bit or both*) in each case.
Select the desired medium in the next dialog.
To burn a DVD, an ISO file is downloaded. If a USB stick is to be created, which is recommended, it requires at least 8 GB of storage space. Note that the stick will be completely erased in the process!
After selecting the storage medium, the Media Creation Tool downloads the necessary files. Then the downloaded files are checked and the media is created.
* If you do not know whether 32- or 64-bit Windows is installed, press the Windows
+ Break
key combination. In the window that appears you will find the required information behind System type.
