How can I find out what type of USB-C port i have?

I have a Medion Erazer P6689 laptop, the model with the i7 CPU.

it has a USB-C port, but I can't find any info on whether it will work as video out

Anyone know where I can find out?

Thanks

Hi @PK_1

you have IO Ports:

1x USB 3.1 Type-C

2x USB 2.0

1x HDMI Out

and

1x LAN (RJ45) / 1x Audio-Kombo (Mic in & Audio out) / 1x Card-Reader: 2in1 Multikartenleser (SD-, SDHC- & SDXC)

why don't you use the HDMI port?

if you want to use the USB port connections for video you need a USB to HDMI adapter/converter

hi @Fishtown thanks for the reply.

I can see in the documentation that the usb-c port is 3.1, which supports video, but in device manager in windows i can only see usb 3.0 ports.

I tried using 2 different usb-c to hdmi adapters and a usb-c to displayport adapter but nothing worked.

The reason I want to do this is that I have two external monitors that I would like to use with the laptop, so the hdmi port is already occupied.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Did you ever get this issue resolved? I'm having a similar issue with wanting to connect 2 monitors. I have purchased an Anker 14 in 1 hub which has 2 HD I ports and works fine from my Dell but the medion only works for usb devices, not the monitors. Any ideas?

Hi @Mccarrod ,

could you serve with the information, which laptop model you own?

Some of the USB-Type C ports just support data transfer, others do support PD or PD, but we need to know the 8-digit- MSN article number (3002xxxx) to sort things out.

Cheers

My MSN is 10025150.

@myshrm

Be aware this is a thread about a Laptop.

If you want to know something about your  desktop pc. you should open another new thread with your questions.

By the way, with your given MSN Number I can not find any documentation about this PC. You said MSN is 10025150. Could it be instead  MSN 1002 5105?

-->  https://www.medion.com/de/service/product-detail/10025105

So please check the MSN, and give some additional information, eg the MD number, and the name.

Most of the PCs do not have a USB port with displayport function, because the dedicated graphic card  offers those connections. So in the new thread name your graphic card as well.

Additionally some mainboards also offer a displayport on the mainboard. But if you have a dedicated graphic card, those. are dysfunctional..

Hello @myshrm and welcome
Please link to the currys page where this is written.
I can't tell from the board Manuel ESC B660H7-M20 on your computer.

You also have an HDMI and three display ports thanks to the RTX4070 graphics card. isn't that enough?

It does not specifically say this in the description but then you filter on video output "usb-c" this is one of the PCs that appears, I guess it is an error on their side.

I wanted to use usb-c as then I can switch easily between PC and work laptop, but I will just have to switch some extra cables around (MDHI and DP).

@myshrm

As I wrote, as long as you use a dedicated graphic card in your system, the graphic ports on your mainboard are without function; all video signals goes through the dedicated graphic cards video ports.

Please tell me what the expression "currys" mean? Is it a idiomatic expression, meaning advertisement ? Or ist ist a shop name? But then you would have written with a capital letter. And I don't think you do mean  the indian   mixed spices.

Bye, daddle
