Hello @AlanMc74 ,

Do you have the MSN of your device (8 digits long found on a sticker on the unit) and the current BIOS version you have.

We can then verify if there are any updates available.

Also is there any particular reason you need to Update the BIOS, change of hardware for example, as it will not improve performance, just fix bugs or new hardware compatibility if requested by the PC/Laptop..

Thanks

I'm switching out the hard drive. I have been running Ubuntu on it for the last 6 years, I'm putting in an SSD Hard drive to replace the current one to install Linux Mint and the SSD (Crucial BX500 480GB SSD) isn't been detected in the BIOS.

See Photos for BIOS version and Laptop details

@RAZZ I have no idea why it rejected the first image, it was only the label details from the back of the laptop.

@RAZZ  Any update on this? Is there an updated BIOS available ?

I have since put back in the old HD and put Linux Mint in it, but I would prefer to be able to use the SSD HD I bought for it.

Hi @AlanMc74

sorry I have not found an update as of yet but due to the age of this device 30016097 2013, there may not be one available.

As soon as I get any feedback I will let you know..

thanks

@RAZZ

Yeah it's an old one alright, but still running really well.

I appreciate it, thanks very much.

Your rejected picture most probably showed the serial number. That's why it was rejected. But all we need to know is the MSN number which you mentioned.

Did you put the new drive into the second SATA III slot, or did you just replaced the original  "SEA 1TB SATA ST1000LM014 SSHD"?

Did you drain the 8GB MLC buffer memory before taking it out?

If not this shouldn't prevent the Bios recognizing the single installed new SSD which is a SATA III. This isn't a Bios problem, but some installation fault, or it is a faulty drive.

Check the cables or receptable slot.. Press the new SSD firmly into it. In between do a residual capacity discharge. Whilest doing take the battery out for a couple of minutes. Then reseat the new drive, and check if it is listed in Bios now. If not, most probably the drive is defect. Or you overlook the disk listing  in  BIOS  😉

Cheers, daddle

hi

system 30016097 (MEDION AKOYA P7627T MD 98473 ) was shipped with  Bios 2.04, but recent version  is 6.05 to be run as Winflash version

https://cdn.medion.com/downloads/software/00_Bios_nb_c17a_win.zip

Unzip 00_Bios_nb_c17a_win.zip file and run WinC17AMD.605.exe as admin from Windows surface afterwards.

we would not advise doing a BIOS update unless the unit is bugging/crashing or they have changed hardware and the unit is not performing correctly. If it is working normally then no need to upgrade.

Thanks

@AlanMc74

I do not understand you This bios @RAZZ  provides is in the download list of the Medion Service Portal since longer available.

Second I do not think it is a Bios problem, as I said already. SATA is a long time accepted  and technically safe protocol for connecting SATA drives., even much  older than from 2013.

But you didn't answer my questions in Post 8.  Then we ( I ) can not help you any further...
