EC (Embedded Controller)


Definition

An embedded controller is an IC that controls various low-level tasks in a system. It is used in notebooks and PCs, among other things.

 

Its tasks include battery monitoring, heat management, keyboard management and other functions that should not be handled by the CPU.

Similar to BIOS or UEFI, the EC contains firmware that can be overwritten with updated versions.
