Medion Life Smart Plug s85225 firmware upgrade fails

I've tried the firmware upgrade many times using two different smart phones: a Huawei Mate 9 and a Samsung Note 4. Result is always the same; the upgrade progresses as much as 14% and then fails. My cable internet connection is stable and about 25mbps download speed. Sample screen shots attached.

Software levels on the two phones:

Huawei Mate 9 on Android 8.0.0

Samsung Note 4 on Android 6.01
