Das von dir geschilderte Phänomen kann auftreten, wenn sich auf der externen Platte zwar kein Betriebssystem, jedoch ein Bootloader befindet. Das Mainboard versucht dann den Loader von dieser Platte zu lesen (auch wenn die Platte in der Bootreihenfolge nicht auftaucht) und hängt dann an der Stelle.
Diesen Umstand kannst du umgehen, indem du im BIOS zwei Dinge veränderst.
1.
Stelle die Bootreihenfolge so ein:
#1 CD/DVD
#2 Hard Disk: Windows Boot Manager
#3 DISABLED
#4 DISABLED
Alle anderen Laufwerke bitte auch auf DISABLED stellen.
2.
Stelle den Punkt "UEFI USB Hard Disk Drive Priorities" ebenfalls auf DISABLED.
Mit diesen Einstellungen wird verhindert, dass das Mainboard in irgend einer Form Zugriff auf die Platte nimmt. Das Booten sollte nun auch mit angeschlossener Platte funktionieren. Sollte diese Vorgehensweise nicht funktionieren, ist es sinnvoll, die HDD in einem DOS Fenster mit "DISKPART" und "CLEAN" einmal komplett zu löschen und somit auch einen eventuell vorhandenen Bootloader zu entfernen. Spätestens danach muss der PC mit angeschlossener HDD booten.
