Hello,
I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM on my 11 month old Medion erazer Major X10 (perhaps more upgrades upon suggestions here). MSN article number: 30034648
I initially bought this to edit videos for social media and I must admit I was a bit naive when buying this computer.
Before placing my order online I did consult some staff in an Electronics store, to whom I showed the specs, they said “you can even edit video on phones these days, so this computer should be enough for your needs.
So far, I have filmed and edited in 1080p (1080 x 1920 px (9:16)), sometimes in (1920 x 1080 px (16:9)) format, this has worked fine most of the time
(except some issues when editing - I haven't been able to use the function “print screen”, which is very Handy when editing a thumbnail with title text: I have to close down all programs, restart The computer, Try to print screen again. I have been forced to do this procedure very frequently…. And also: now last month, the brightness of my second monitor has gone down in brightness (Estimated 40% ). Ever since I bought the computer, I have been using SECOND MONITOR ONLY MODE and after this deviation with the brightness has appeared, I only get full brightness when I change the mode to DUPLICATE.
I should add that I always have the brightness mode at 100 in the other monitor's menu settings).
When I've filmed in vertical mode for social media, occasionally I would have liked to use the same footage for long format (horizontally) on Youtube. But depending on what I'm filming, the opportunity may already be over and I can't film it again.
I recently got myself a phone with a better camera and had an idea to film everything in 4k, Horizontal format and then crop in the footage for social media for 9:16 format, If I wanted to.
So, I tried to film my content in horizontal mode, 4k to do this, but discovered when editing in the software my computer was running very hot with the fans at full speed and the laptop very feeling laggy.
I recently read that the recommended memory for editing 4K is 32Gb RAM.
My question is, Is there any point for me to upgrade the RAM memory on my laptop, or are there other things I need to keep in mind, such as read- and write speeds for storage - are those speeds sufficient on my in-built memory?
What RAM will be compatible with my laptop and Will my computer be capable (for 4k editing) after a RAM upgrade or are there more components I should upgrade? Or should I instead invest in a computer with better performance for film editing?
Any suggestions?
/Regards, David
