help required please

hi I require some help please.

I have a Medion laptop with an i5 7200u processor which apparently is not an approved processor for the windows 11 update.

upon trying to find alternative processors for the motherboard but I don't seem to be able to able to find any information about it. I used system information and CPU-Z and it says its a Medion F13K other information I can find is

system model S3409  MD60377.

any help information would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Steve

Hi @steve53 ,

Your i5-7200U is a BGA (Ball Grid Array) chip, which means it's soldered directly onto the motherboard.

This cannot be upgraded or replaced like a desktop CPU. Laptop motherboards are typically not compatible with other CPUs unless they were made for them — and even then, it's a big maybe.

So: swapping out the processor on your existing motherboard isn't feasible.

Your Options:

Option 1: Stay on Windows 10

  • Windows 10 is supported until October 14, 2025.

  • Perfectly usable and stable until then.

  • You can still get updates, security patches, etc.

  • No immediate need to upgrade unless you really want Windows 11.

Option 2: Install Windows 11 Anyway (Bypass CPU Check)

  • You can install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

  • Microsoft allows this, though you might miss out on some updates or support.

  • You just have to bypass the CPU check during installation.

HI @Igor28

thanks for your reply, Well that's a bugger then. so the choice is stay with an unsupported 10

or switch to an unsupported 11 seems like a catch 22 situation.

on the slightly plus side my main computer that's running a Ryzen 3 2200g looks like I can upgrade that.

So just need to check the wife's laptop now, not holding out a lot of hope for that either but we shall see.
