I just got an SSD drive (1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2) for my Akoya notebook (MSN 30030605), and I've inserted it into the slot on the back but it doesn't seem to recognise it at all. TBH I'm kind of clueless about stuff like this, to give you an idea of where I'm at when I saw instructions to "enter BIOS" I thought it was talking about a code on the drive that I had to input somewhere on the computer! I did manage to work that out, but I don't know which part of BIOS to check or what it would show as (it isn't showing as an option in File Explorer though).
I've seen some things that say you can get a device to use it externally via USB, would that be likely to work better? If so what's the best port to use for it? I mostly want it for video editing, so if I could store my video files on there and just plug it in to work on them that could work well.
Also can I just use it as an extra storage drive or do I need to clone my current hard drive, including the OS? I'm happy to have the OS boot from the drive the laptop came with and putting videos and other software onto the SSD drive if that would work (and I think it would be simpler). Though having said that if I *did* clone everything over it would make it a lot easier when I get a new computer in the next few years if I could keep the same hard drive.
If someone give me a super basic run down of what I need to know and what my options are that would be great, please feel free to explain it to me like I'm five!
Thanks a lot

Hello @CHubley , happy new year and welcome
Look for the port name on the board.
If it says “sata” like this,
you cannot install your M.2 PCIe there, otherwise it will not be recognized.
Swap it out for an M.2SATA or buy an external case and connect it via the USB port.
