Thanks for all the help @daddle Unfortunately I can't even get into the BIOS now as even when it does power up (power button is even worse now), it powers down before getting to the BIOS. This is with the charger attached or on battery. I'll see about a repair and send it back to Medion to take a look.

And the BIOS update has now bricked the machine. Power button still a problem but now when it powers up the machine just shuts down again straight away. Sigh. Anyone any final suggestions before I look to bin the machine and lose the money I paid for it ?

I've made progress on the BIOS issue. Seems that that root certificate is shipped as part of the BIOS package, so I needed to install that into the appropriate certificate store in windows. Now I can install the BIOS update. Fingers crossed it fixes the issue with the power button.

thanks for the reply @daddle my userid is an admin account and for good measure I also tried installing via an admin command prompt, but the results are the same. I see other people have had similar issues with this laptop for example https://community.medion.com/t5/Notebook-Netbook/Medion-erazer-Crawler-E30-MD62472-I-need-BIOS-and-EC/m-p/175649/highlight/true?profile.language=fr So I am now thinking it could be a hardware fault and an update to the BIOS won't fix it (but would be great if it did). I bought this laptop second hand but it is in excellent condition and the battery seems to be in great condition as well which is a shame as I doubt I would qualify for any sort of warranty repair on it. So unless a BIOS update can fix it I guess I am going to have to try to return it to the seller for a refund. It's a shame because once it does decide to power on, it's works really well for my needs.

I have just purchased an Erazer Crawler E30 (MSN: 3003 3973) and I've hit a couple of minor issues with it 1. Sometimes it won't power on. After a few attempts it powers on. The button itself seems to respond fine testing it putting it into standby mode for example 2. Very occasionally it will power up but the screen remains black and the fans switch to full speed and all I can do is power off and try again I thought I would upgrade the BIOS for the machine to see if that addresses these problems, however when I try to install the BIOS from the Medion Drivers page (Version: 1.07.09RME1) It fails with the following error "A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider". So I guess I don't have anything on my system that trusts the certificate chain that is part of the package I am on Windows 11 Home 24H2 if that makes a difference. Can anyone provide any suggestions or help on this ? Many thanks
