I think it is the BIOS. I just tried flashing the XMG hoping it would clear things up, but that's not working. Seriously think my system has some sort of defect or BIOS lock or something. Think it's time to give Scan a call, I'm not comfortable being stuck with such an old BIOS and it's settings. Maybe I got a few bad chips/components with this unit.   ... Afficher plus

I spent a bit of time reading up on possible reasons/solutions for the problem with the ram. Several sources saying that certain chips only support up to 5600 (mine is 13900hx), which I struggle to understand if I'm being honest. People have ram running over 7000. Other sources say it depends on motherboard limitations and others mention that it could be down to BIOS version/make. It wouldn't bother me, but every other gaming forum I go on they're saying about ddr5 6000 being essential for modern games. Just one of them things that's bugging me. I'm still waiting on the BIOS. A couple of weeks ago I managed to flash an older medion bios, 1.18, thinking it was an update, and since haven't been able to find the latest BIOS update. A bit of an avoidable mess if I'm honest. They are Kingston Fury 5600 cl40-40-40 1.1v PnP. Not sure, but I think they might be the "Impact" model but it doesn't say on the packaging.  It's the latest Medion BIOS. I don't know which version, but she said it will be the latest BIOS.  ... Afficher plus

I tried a couple of those profiles, but with no success. It must be down to either the RAM or MB don't support over 5600 speeds. I may invest in a couple sticks of faster RAM in the near future. Getting the cooler in a couple weeks, plus a BIOS update is on it's way, just waiting for Germany to email it over, should be with me this week. Thank you for your help. I am going to invest in the watercooler. Thanks for your advice. Any idea on how to overclock the ddr5 5600 to 6000, as aparently there are performance gains in gaming when running at the 6000 "sweet spot"? Don't get me wrong, the X40 is already running great at 5600 so it isn't really that important.  ... Afficher plus

You can disable Nvidia Optimus in Control Center in general settings, but I think that does the opposite of what you are asking.  ... Afficher plus

Oh absolutely, if you have the water cooler definitely use the control center. I don't see the need to spend the extra money to get my gaming temps below 70 degrees, personally.    ... Afficher plus

The only thing you can do about the temps is undervolt your cpu in bios and then use a 3rd party tool to restrict the power. I got a stable undervolt of 1.29, that's -129 in the bios, but if i don't limit the power, games freeze and the odd BSOD occurs. Playing Starfield, I'm getting 100+ fps and the cpu temp only spikes over 90 degrees every now and then but mainly sits 70-80 degrees on max settings, idle 53-69 degrees. Best I could manage. I've had the laptop 2 months. 2 months pretty much spent on learning how to lower the temps of the cpu. Definitely worth the hassle. Both Medion and XMG bios are pretty much the same in my opinion. The XMG control center is green and has a few more options. Personally I would just set your RAM to max speed possible in the BIOS (5600 DDR5 is the fastest you can run on these laptops, so don't bother investing in better RAM) and then remove the control center completely. The RGB light tweaker is handy actually, but I'm sure there must be a program out there that can do the same.  If you're hoping to use the control center for any kind of watt, volt, degrees, celsius, hz or ghz adjustment don't waste your time.  These laptops/chips run very very hot and don't have adequate fan adjustment so your only option is to undervolt and then restrict the processor/power in something like Throttlestop.  To keep the package power constantly below 93 degrees while gaming you will take a performance hit, obviously. ... My x40 came with the 1.20 bios. I admit I'm not familiar with flashing/upgrading a bios, and since there was no updated bios on the medion site, I was apprehensive about changing anything. I came across a 1.21 medion bios and a 1.21 xmg bios. I first flashed the medion, I think I done it right, it said I had the most up to date bios (1.20?!) so I then flashed the xmg one. System Info still says I'm on ver 1.20 even though the bios menu has changed and there are now several extra menus/options that I can change.  All I wanted was the beast running cooler when I'm gaming, even if I took a hit on frames, because I was hitting 98 degrees and I know plenty of people have their temps around 80, max. I've tried to get my head around the core vaultage offset and PL1 PL2 and PL4 in the control center to lower temps. Not a clue if I've set it correct, but I've got it set to: 77 degrees max temp PL1 60 PL2 60 PL4 160 Core vaultage offset -1 In the end, I haven't got a scooby whice bios I have, or if I've messed anything up, but my x40 is running perfect. Taken me about 5 weeks to get it to the standard I wanted (new ssd and windows installation as well). ... Afficher plus
