Akoya E4251 boot from m.2

Hello,

I have a Medion Akoya E4251 and it has a m.2 slot. I am thinking about installing a new m.2 drive and my question is if windows can boot from m.2 drive (faster), instead of onboard drive (slower).

Thanks.

Definitely not.
Although it is able to connect to storage devices in M2 format.
The BIOS does not support the NVME protocol.

And it makes sense, since the system would not be able to absorb the 3500Mb / second that it is capable of providing in reading and writing.

So I see more logical, taking into account the capacity of the Medion Akoya E4251 system, which uses the SATA III protocol that is able to provide up to 550Mb / second in reading and writing.

I think SATA III will go perfect for this device.

Here you have a photos of the M2 NVMe test

Now it's time to decide which one to buy.

Yes, Win 10 starts from the SSD drive.

I have configured the SSD unit as the main unit C and the 64Gb of the eMMC memory as the unit D.

Happy with the change,

If you have any problem when trying to do it, do not hesitate to ask me.
Greetings.

Note:

Until I create an iso image of disk D on a flash drive, I will not erase it as a precaution.

One question, how did you install windows in the new m.2 drive? Did you clone it (in this case, what tool?) or you did a clean install and as already suggested, windows key is in the bios, so no problem installing it?

Thanks.

@Acelsp

I'll just tag @jjrodri07 to make sure he sees your question below:

Before starting to do anything.
I recommend you get a w10 image on a pendrive in case it were necessary.

Simply for agility I use clonezilla.

I already have it perfect, W10 on the SSD, and the slowest internal 64Gb free for storage.

I'm thinking about installing some Linux distribution on those 64Gb

I'll tell you.

@jjrodri07, what I really wanted to know is the method you used to install windows in the new m.2. Did you do a clean install using a windows key or did you use your filezilla image to clone windows in the new m.2 drive?

I use W10 for create the USB for the image disks of W10  (I recommend a minimum Pendrive of 32Gb)

And I use Clonezilla pendrive. ( I use a pendrive of 8Gb)
1.- The pendrive with Clonezilla I created it with Rufus.
2.- Clonezilla duplicates the internal unit inside the SSD.

Restart

1.- Check that the first unit is the SSD. And that W10 starts from the SSD. If it is OK.

2.- How do you have the image discs of the W10 system in the first pendrive of 32Gb

Then you can erase the internal 64Gb drive

This is a generic explanation of the steps I have taken. What I hope will be useful.
