LTE (Long Term Evolution)

LTE (Long Term Evolution)

Definition

LTE is a mobile radio standard also known as 3G (third generation mobile radio).

With LTE, download rates have been significantly increased compared to the previous version. Depending on the reception situation, download rates of up to 1200 Mbit per second (LTE Cat 18) are possible. The basis for the LTE network is an IP network architecture.

In practice, LTE mobile providers use the UHF frequency band. From this band, frequencies in the middle or upper UHF range of approx. 700 to 2600 megahertz are used, varying from region to region. The standards for this are defined in the 3rd Generation Partnership (3GPP), a worldwide cooperation of committees for standardisation in mobile radio.

A downward-compatible extension of LTE is called LTE-Advanced or 4G. Existing LTE base stations only need a software update to make the new standard available. Latencies (delays) and transmission rates were once again significantly improved.
