AKOYA P5372 H PC, MSN10020616 : TSSTcorpCDDVDW SH-216DB FAILS TO READ WITH AII CD's

PC DETAILS:

ML:11000

MODEL: PC MT14

TYPE: MED MT 8147M

MED SERIAL NO : B72803 MED EU

PROBLEM:

1. When I insert any CD into the drive, I hear it trying to read the CD, but does not !!  The drive, with the CD still in it, then immediately starts to make VERY loud mechanical screeching noises at high speed !! I then immediately press the Eject button and the CD ejects. No damage to the CD's occurs, as they always playback ok in my home CD player.

2. When I action UPDATE DRIVER, 2x Drivers are shown, one the original driver that was installed, and the second driver being an updated one that I downloaded from a website relating to this model of CD/DVD ROM SH-216DB. No improvement is made when both drivers are selected.

3. Could you advise me as to how I can get this CD/DVD Rom drive to work correctly.

Hi @atttim and welcome

"very loud mechanical screeching" Sounds more like a hardware defect.

Thank you for your link.

The model shown in the link pic shows the makers information details showing it's a

SH-216AL and NOT 216DB that I require.

It appears on investigation, that the SH- 216 model has various "end letters" depending on makers possible different fitment details ??

Any further advice please ??

Hello @atttim
Your drive with the MSN NO. 20054969 is no longer listed in the Medion Service Shop.
So you won't get it anymore and may have to rebuild/adjust the front cover.

or you buy a used device:

@atttim

It doesn't matter which CD/DVD RW player you use, as long as the installation format is correct. Then you can compare technical data. However,  CDs or DVDs will be used less in the future as USB sticks are increasingly being used.

And if you mainly want to watch films with i, you could consider installing a Blu-Ray player.

Pse explain what you mean by "installation format" so I can see how it applies to me choosing the correct cddvdRom for my PC ????

In my world, and others i know, CdDvd Drives are still a current way of listening to in particularly me, CD's, hence my requirement for a replacement CdDvd Drive !!

Am fully aware of the later digital alternatives to "old" types of playback especially as i have many cd's collected over my 75 year life !!

Thank you anyway for your advice.

Your world is also my world!  😉

I hinted already at videos.

And of course if you have a large music collection and you actually listen to it via your PC and not via a separate player with your  HiFi system, then sure. I haven't ruled that out either!
