mSATA (mini-SATA)

mSATA (mini-SATA)

Definition

mSATA was specified by JEDEC in September 2009 to allow for smaller memory. Physically, it is the same connection as Mini PCI Express, but the lines are electrically controlled like SATA cables. Here, mSATA uses either the first (1.5 Gbit/s), second (3.0 Gbit/s) or third (6.0 Gbit/s) revision of the SATA specification to transmit the signals.

The first products with mSATA storage include some notebooks. Due to the relatively late standardisation, there are also many products on the market that use their own interfaces and form factors that are incompatible with mSATA.
