SCSI (Small Computer System Interface)

SCSI (Small Computer System Interface)

Definition

Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) refers to standardized protocols for controlling communication between computers and peripheral devices. SCSI protocols control the transfer of data and access to the respective interface, between mass storage (e.g. hard disk) and controller (mainboard).

Originally, SCSI also included hardware interfaces with which peripheral devices such as hard disks, printers, optical drives and many others could be connected. However, these interfaces are hardly used today and have been replaced by Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or SATA connections.
