Jack plug

Jack plug

Definition

Jack plugs, also known as line plugs in communication technology for headphones, are two-pole and multi-pole coaxial connectors widely used worldwide for the transmission of small electrical signals and high power in power amplifiers in stage technology or a pure AC or DC voltage in the low voltage range.

The tip and the sleeve of the two-pole jack plug correspond to the inner conductor (core) and the outer conductor (shield, ground) of the coaxial cable. For multi-pole plugs, each ring corresponds to another concentric inner cylinder and contact.

In English, the three-pole is called TRS connector for tip, ring and sleeve, multi-pole as TRRS etc. - colloquially also audio plug or audio jack.
