The BIOS (basic input / output system) is the firmware of x86 PCs.
It is stored in a non-volatile memory on the motherboard of a PC and is executed immediately after the PC is switched on.
One of the tasks of the BIOS is to first make the PC functional and then to initiate the start of an operating system.
Today, the BIOS has largely been replaced by Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) or Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
