XMP (Extreme Memory Profile)

XMP (Extreme Memory Profile)

Definition

Extreme Memory Profiles (XMP) are certificates for DDR3 and DDR4 memory introduced by Intel.

If XMP is not activated, the RAM memory operates with the JEDEC timings set by the computer.

XMP allows RAM memory to operate outside of the JEDEC standards, making it easier to match memory speeds to RAM requirements. To use XMP, your motherboard, CPU and RAM must all be XMP-enabled. Pre-saved profiles make overclocking RAM easier and more reliable.

Comparable certificates also exist for AMD systems, these have different names depending on the manufacturer, such as A - XMP (MSI), D.O.C.P. (ASUS) or EOCP (Gigabyte).
