MD 81664 VHS-DVD recorder. Unwanted watermark on VHS to DVD recording.

Hi, this is a question for MD 81664 VHS-DVD recorder.

When copying a VHS tape to a DVD, a sort of watermark is overwritten on the DVD film. It consists of a rectangle plus some data underneath, as can be seen on the picture. Sometimes only one of these artifacts, sometimes two, ... and up to four. Sometimes the copy is correct, with no watermark on it. I can't figure out which if any configuration parameter produces this behavior.

I'm trying to get rid of them but no idea on how to deal wiht it. Any help will be appreciated.

hi @anigan

It sounds like you're encountering a watermark or overlay issue when copying VHS tapes to DVDs using the MD 81664 VHS-DVD recorder. This kind of artifact typically occurs due to several potential reasons related to the settings of your device, the VHS tape, or even the DVD you're using.

Here are a few things to try and troubleshoot the problem:

. Check the Source Tape

  • Copy Protection: Some VHS tapes have copy protection mechanisms like Macrovision, which can add watermarks or distortion during the copying process. If the watermark you're seeing corresponds with an intermittent pattern or appears more frequently on certain tapes, it might be due to copy protection on the VHS.

  • Tape Condition: If the VHS tape is damaged or has visible degradation, this could also cause artifacts during the copying process.

. Check Recorder Settings

  • Menu or Setup Options: Look for any settings in the recorder's menu that might relate to "overlay", "watermark", "branding", or "background" features. The MD 81664 might have some feature activated that’s causing this watermark.

  • Recording Format: Make sure you are using the correct format for the DVD (e.g., DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.). Some formats might cause unexpected behavior with certain recorders.

. Try a Different DVD Media

  • Some DVDs or the type of discs you are using may not be fully compatible with your recorder, which can result in unusual artifacts or watermarks. Try using a different brand or type of blank DVD to see if that helps resolve the issue.

Hi RAZZ

Thanks for the hints. After several attempts modifying different configuration parameters I could get rid of those overlays/watermarks. I really don't know which one was causing that behavior but the result is OK.

I appreciate your help.
