How do I stop the laptop knowing the lid is closed?

Model: Medion Erazer DEPUTY P60i

Everytime I plug in a HDMI, and close my laptop to play a game on my monitor, it switches everything over to the second monitor, including my mouse in the dead centre of the screen stuck there.

I don't want it to close my first display and throw everything onto the second one when I'm trying to play a game, how do I stop it from doing this.

I already have the Windows setting to Do Nothing when the lid is closed, but that doesn't stop it from pushing everything over to my external monitor. Every solution I find online just talks about the Windows settings, and unless it's something I have to change in the registry, I don't know how to fix this. I just wanna be able to close my gaming laptop and play games on a bigger display when I'm at my desk.

If anyone can help it'd be really appreciated, because it's stopping me from playing games, I don't want my screens to constantly jump around whenever the lid is closed. I've checked the UEFI and unless I'm missing something, there's nothing.

I'll be happy to answer any questions.

hi @artemislogic

this can be  a common issue with gaming laptops when trying to use them in a “lid closed” mode with an external display. I see you’ve already tried the Windows setting (Do nothing when the lid is closed), which should prevent sleep/shutdown, but Windows still detects the built in display as disconnected when the lid closes, and that triggers display reconfiguration.

Ther are a few things you can try –

Disable Lid Switch in Device Manager

Set external display as primary in Windows

Disable auto display switching in Intel/NVIDIA control panels

Check BIOS/UEFI for lid or display settings

A word of advice:- Cooling can be an issue when gaming with the lid closed. Make sure it gets enough airflow.

thanks
