Definition

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is a worldwide association of engineers, technicians, scientists and related professions from areas of information technology and electrical engineering. Standardization of hardware, software and techniques is its main goal. One of the best-known standard is IEEE 802, which defines functionality of today's local area networks. It also standardized the functioning of wireless networks and many other technologies in varies fields of (consumer) electronics.
