Why does the door of the cooling unit no longer close properly?

Question

Why does the door of the cooling unit no longer close properly?

Answer

Check the following points:

  • The appliance must be in a straight position so that the door is flush with the appliance and then closes properly. First check with a spirit level whether the appliance is level to the back / front and / or to the side. With the adjustable feet, you can compensate for unevenness of the floor and thus bring the appliance into balance.
  • A possible cause can also be the uneven filling of the inner storage surfaces of the door. First remove everything from the door's storage compartments and then test whether the door can be closed properly again. If the door still does not close flush, the hinges may have shifted. These can easily be reattached in the correct position with a suitable screwdriver.

  • The rubber (seal) on the door may also have warped, causing gaps to form in the seal and therefore the door not closing properly. The rubber on the door can be carefully warmed up with e.g. an ordinary hair dryer (hair dryer) and thus brought back into shape.
  • If it is the door of the freezer compartment, ice has probably formed on the walls of the interior. This prevents the door from closing completely. If you defrost the freezer compartment and remove the ice, the door should close properly again.
