Why does my notebook write numbers instead of the letters displayed on some keys?

If numbers rather than letters are generated for some keys when using the keyboard on the notebook, then NUM Lock is active.
There are different key combinations depending on the notebook keyboard. Pressing the respective key combination simultaneously switches NUM Lock on or off again:

• SHIFT + FN + NUM Lock
• FN + Ins
• FN + NUM
