What do I have to pay attention to after transporting a refrigerator?

Question

What do I have to pay attention to after transporting a refrigerator?

Answer

In the case of horizontal transport, you should wait at least twelve hours before putting the unit back into operation. For older units, even 24 hours is recommended. If the unit was transported upright, two hours of rest are sufficient.

This rest period is needed so that the refrigerant (oil) can flow back into the compressor. If the unit is switched on too early, there is not enough refrigerant in the compressor to ensure low-wear operation. This can lead to a premature defect. If the compressor was stored at an angle during transport, it is also possible that there is too much refrigerant in the compressor cylinder. This can lead to damage to cylinders, pistons, valves, etc..
