How do I receive channels in 4K UHD with a TV Box?

Question

How do I receive channels in 4K UHD with a TV Box?

Answer

The correct way to 4K reception:

  • Cable connection: Do not connect the cable directly to the TV, but to the 4K UHD TV box. This box is the key to improving quality.
  • Signal conversion: The 4K UHD TV box converts standard definition (SD) signals into high-resolution high-definition (HD) and 4K signals.
  • Connection to the TV: Connect the TV box to your TV using a HDMI cable. Make sure that you select the correct HDMI input source on the TV.

A 4K UHD box (set-top box / receiver) can usually process several signal types:

  • Cable reception (DVB-C)
  • Cable reception (DVB-C2)
  • SAT (DVB-S2)
  • SAT (DVB-S2X)
  • Terr. (DVB-T2)
  • LAN (IP)
  • Wi-Fi (IP)

In order to actually experience 4K content, every component of the hardware chain must be designed to process a 4K signal.
Important here is the version of the HDMI cable (version HDMI 1.4 could display UHD up to 30 frames per second, while HDMI 2. 0 already enables a display of 60 frames per second and HDMI 2.1 cables are intended for 8K / 120 Hz or HDMI 2.0b for 4K / HDR). Features such as ARC (Audio Return Channel) or eARC (transmits Dolby Atmos uncompressed) are crucial, you can find more information on this here.

⚠️Note⚠️  DVB-C is a digital transmission technology for television signals via cable networks. The abbreviation stands for Digital Video Broadcasting Cable and marks the transition from analogue to digital television reception. With the switch-off of analogue transmissions, a DVB-C receiver became a basic requirement for television viewers. The technology works by means of a set-top box that is connected between the cable connection and the television. It enables high-resolution picture quality and is widespread in various regions of the world. Although a successor standard DVB-C2 was introduced in 2010, it is not yet in use. A future implementation is conceivable, particularly in the transition to Ultra HD 4K resolutions and the use of the HEVC video codec. The distribution areas include Europe, parts of Asia, Australia, Africa and South America.
