Want to upgrade P6661

Hi,

I wish to upgrade my Erazer P6661 (MD99953, MSN30020564)

I want to know which m.2 ssd will work in my laptop.

Do I have to get a SATA m.2 like Samsung 860 evo or will a NVMe m.2 like Samsung 970 evo work too?
I also wish to upgrade memory since currently its just 6GB, anyone have any recommendations?
I have never before upgraded before hence I'm but of a noob on this.
Thank you!

Hi @Rattatouille and welcome to the FORUM.

Regarding the SSD:

Your product has a SSHD 2.5 "; SATA III 6.0 Gb / s; 1 TB from Toshiba with already a good spec.
More Details: Toshiba MQ02ABD100H
* 1 TB
* 8 GB MLC NAND Flash
* SATA 6.0 Gb / s (aka "SATA III")
* 5,400 rpm
* 64 MB cache
* Series: Toshiba SSHD MQ02 Series

Regarding the RAM
Your product has 2 slots of RAM, upgradable until 16GB max.in total

It comes with 1x 2048 MB DDR3 SO-DIMM (PC3-12800 / 1600 MHz) and 1x 4096 MB DDR3 SO-DIMM (PC3-12800 / 1600 MHz).

If you want to expand it, you need to look for DDR3 memories

To play on the safe side, always prioritize well established and known sellers that offer returns and refunds in case you need it.

Regards,

Gehringer

@Gehringer

Yes I know which HHD is in it. I don't wish to replace it, I just wish to fill the m.2 slot that's not used yet. But I don't know which type will fit, it's able to read. Looks to be SATA but some comments on this forum make out that it should be NVMe. So I'm confused.

Are you sure it should be DDR3 and not DDR3>L<? Other versions of the eraser p6661 also seem te be only working with DDR3L.

Computers built with the intel 4th Generation will only support DDR3l RAM

According to MSN you have Intel Core i5 Mobile i5-6200U CPU meaning 6th generation so DDR it is.

Against all you're advice I bought DDR3>L ram anyways. I'm pretty sure that's the correct type because the stickers on the old ram says it PC3>L-12800S, googling on this only gives you DDR3>ram. Older German topics in the site also give the advice of installing low voltage ram. (Someone even installed normal DDR3 and found it not working. Thus had to return it and buy DDR3>L.)

The SSD M.2 I ended up installing is the 860 Evo one, because that's SATA and that's the only type working.
