@JJP73

There are a number of reasons why a battery will only charge while the laptop is turned off. Most common causes are loose cabling or a faulty battery.

The flashing orange light indicates that there is a power issue.

Try completely draining the battery before charging again. You can also try a power reset by unplugging the power cord and removing the battery.

I have drained the battery and bought a new psu. I have also checked the connection, the psu cable is secure but like the original psu male connection looks like it is not pushed all the way in but this due to the depth of the socket.

Hi, firstly I’d like to thank you for your comment. I have completely drained the battery a few times. More than just letting the battery get so low that the laptop turns off. I’ve then opened the lid and pushed the power button and it begins to load bios but then turns off. I repeated this a number of times. Until the laptop won’t do anything when I try to turn it on. After this I plug it into charge and leave it for most of the day. But still get the same problem. I’ve bought new PSU that is suitable for the laptop but this has not helped. I’m sending it off today and Medion are going to have a look at it for me.
I trust Medion. Germany stands for good quality build.

many years ago I worked for PCWorld tech support and always recommended Medion laptops. At that time the only place you could get them was from Aldi.

Anyway thanks for your help.

Hi, I spoke to someone at medion who arranged for it to be sent to them for repair. However, I got an email back saying that I had broken the laptop by taking out the screws and replacing them with screws that were too big and that the laptop no longer powered up. Also they could not put it back together. I asked for some photos. And I was sent 3 one showing some sort of gunk near a small connector and the other two showing broken laptop case. I took pictures before I sent it and have previously sent pictures and videos of the fault.
I had also originally complained about the heat. The vents at the back were getting so hot I burned my hand but this was not addressed in the email I received.
I don’t trust the repair centre. The laptop is not the one I sent in.

Oh also I couldn’t do the reset you suggested as the battery is not accessible.

Thanks

John

So I asked for photos showing the damage that they said I had done to the laptop and I was convinced that they were not from my laptop.

I compared the photos they sent with the photos I had taken before I sent it to them. But they didn’t respond to this when i emailed them.

they sent my laptop back and I compared their photos with my laptop and there is no damage to the external case.
when I sent it to them it would charge if the laptop was off and I could use it fine for a few hours.

but when I received it back it would not charge under any circumstances.

Ill post copies of their email replies regarding the faults that they alleged I had caused.

Im thinking of going to the small claims court. The fees are relatively small to raise the case but Medion will have to send a lawyer to refute my claim, which will cost them much more than what I will pay.

I have given them a chance to fix the problem before I take them to the small claims courts.
