md8818 with msi ms 7318 ver 1.1 long beeping

hi,

i have this old pc which beeps all the time. Long continues beeping. On the hdmi i dont get any startup screen. I have replaced the ram, to a crucial 2gb,  and graphics card , to a radeon hd 5450, that i believe are working as they are purchased recently. A new cmos battery has been inserted.

However,

PC keeps beeping and i must look at other troubleshooting. Can you suggest any?

I believe there is a capacitor that shines. On the board it states ec23, see https://www.mupload.nl/img/xx0tbxye.jpg . EDIT: the shining cap is marked with arrows here : https://www.mupload.nl/img/h0xpszlb.jpg  . On page 12 of msi_ms-7318_rev_100_sch.pdf , ec23 can be found - is ec23 related to dvi/graphics?. I havent yet released screws and unsoldered but could this cap be causing problems? Other advice?

Hi @tvviewer1 ,

can you please inform the MSN number of your product?

Also, can you tell how many beeps you hear?

Regards,

Gehringer

Hi @tvviewer1 ,

the MSN number is an 8-digits number, normally starting by 300 or 500, that you have printed in the label underneath your product.

Those beeps are they emitted in specific intervals? For instance always Y beeps at a time, repeating every x seconds or is it beeping irregularly the whole time?

Regards,

Gehringer

The pc was bought in denmark. There is an 8-digit s/n code : 20033290 . Another code is 447301MEDDK. Modell: pc mt 8. Typ: MED MT 461. EAN: 25089530.

The beeps are the same all the time and they probably continue forever until turning off. They are regular beeps like : beeeeep..pause..beeeeep..pause..beeeeep and so on.

@tvviewer1

I had this continuos interrupted beeping once, when I startet a PC with the Proc not properly seated.

You Bios is an AMI-Bios.

Check these hints in the beginning of the page, to get better diagnosis: -->

Hi Tvviewer,

i have also this PC and had the same problem for a view days. Their is a Award Phoenix BIOS inside and you should take a look for the signals in this link (http://www.bios-info.de/4p92x846/awsignal.htm). It's a difference between AWARD, Phoenix and Award Phoenix. I had also long beeps with breaks after changing the RAM. Try to clean the RAM contacts and install it correct again. Maybe the RAM is defect or your board doesn't works with this type. In my case the reason was a defect of one RAM. The second one works fine. I hope you can fix it with this informations.

@Centurio25

Sorry, but you are wrong. The PC MD 8818, the danisch model, with the MSN 10009739, which has a MSI motherboard MS 7318, is equipped with an AMI- Bios, not Award. That the Medion Database says.

 And by the way, the thread and posts from tvviewer was finished about more than 6 weeks ago.
