Monitor flashes from, bright: Red > blue > white > green etc.

Hi,

Help Please:

I've been using various Medion equipment for years without much issue.

But the following issue has just started on my Medion monitor, eg:

My Medion PC Monitor: 17" SXGA LCD
MD32117
MSN 4001 6150
22.12.2005

This is what happens:

I switched the mains socket back on, to my PC & monitor.

Then I switched on the monitor. (eg: the PC is off)...

 And the monitor screen flashed (at about 1 sec intervals)
  from, bright: Red > blue > white > green etc.

Next:

I started the PC, and it then worked as normal,

except that the following text is displayed in a small blue box in the top left corner of the screen !

But if I leave the PC unused for a short while:

The flashing starts again, but stops if I use the keyboard or move the mouse.

Have you already performed a residual power discharge?
Unplug the power cord and hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

Then reset the device (factory settings) in the OSD menu.

Every night:

I put the PC in standby.

I leave the monitors power (rocker) switch, in the on position.

and switch-off the mains wall socket.

   * Which is basically doing a monitor reset *

Then the next day, I put the PC on, by reversing those steps, eg:

switch-on the mains wall socket.

(at this point, the monitor used to stay black, but now it flashes)

power up the PC by pressing it's power switch.

Then the monitor shows the login screen

So I did the reset etc, as you suggested, but the problem is still there!

So why is it doing this?

Because it is old. Or you have a cable, a graphic chip or plug problem. Check and reseat the graphic card, if it is a dedicated one built in your PC, OR take the plugs out and replug them. And I wouldn't switch the monitor off through the wall socket switch. It's more safe to do it with the  monitor switch itself. But most probably damage is done and not revesible anymore.
