(Update 20.03.2018: Update für alle freigeschaltet.)

Helau allerseits,

This update brings you Android 7.0 (Nougat).

Your data is retained. We nevertheless do recommend backing up your data before applying the update.

I attempted to install this beta-update, but the installation failed...

What I did:

- tried to install the update, but there was not enough space available

- removed SD card (was configured as internal storage)

- did a full reset on the device, this worked... continued the installation configuration

- after completion, tried to install the update again

- download went ok apparently

- but when the installation started (reboot), the "Android Recovery" menu is shown

- it complains about a file EMMC:/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/11120000.msdc0/by-name/boot:7665664:e4e2735b891bfee63bf6aa462bb4a201d32a256:8339712:bf63c40c5710ab48b87d23bdc583958dc4fb9527 has unexpected contents.

(note copied this by hand, give me some slack 😉 )

Update.zip is not correct

Installation aborted.

OTA failed! Please power off...

After rebooting the device starts normally, obviously without the update installed.

Hi folks,

the following advice is only for devices with Build number v1.24 and kernel version "Wed May 17 13:31:54 CST 2017".

For some of those devices the update to v2.8 unfortunately doesn't work right away. Instead you have to install another update file first.

You can download that file here:

http://cdn.medion.com/downloads/software/full_medion_e691x-ota-V1.24.zip

Copy this file to an sd card or right onto the device and install it via the Updates app -> "Check memory".

The Build number after the update will remain v1.24, but the kernel version will be updated to "Wed May 17 17:38:11 CST 2017".

From here you can install the real update to v2.8 over-the-air as usual.

Please let us know if it works.

http://cdn.medion.com/downloads/software/full_medion_e691x-ota-V1.24.zip

Mimas

When this part is completed, the V1.28 succeeds.

I was enjoying it, but I'm having a problem now with V2.8 I never had with V2.4. The WiFi connection turns out to be unstable.

After having been successfully connected for hours, the WiFi suddenly disconnects, and attempts to reconnect again. The device shows "authentication error". All neighbour SSID's are properly shown. Other devices (smarpthone, laptop) do not have this problem.

Switching off WiFi, and reenabling doesn't work, problem remains. Re-entering the correct password does not work. On the other hand, rebooting the tablet does work! Immediate connection.

The only thing that may be a little odd, is that I put a high continuous load on the WiFi connection by having it synchronised a huge 50G folder/map using Syncthing. Did this before with V2.4 (Android 6.0). Never a problem. Now this issue turned up twice with V2.8 (Android 7.0 Nougat).

Hi @vtx,

pardon me for saying that syncing 50GB files with (or onto? or from?) a tablet device sounds like a rather odd use-case. Or did I get that wrong?

How many times did you do that successfully with the old image?

Many times. Never had a problem with that. I like this tablet because it is light and small, and I use it watch movies or series for instance when I am on an airplane, or in the middle of nature in a tent. So, I load these movie files onto that tablet (obviously on an SD card). Seems rather regular use to me.

Hm, I see your point, @vtx. As someone who can appreciate that use case, I would consider moving the data by other means, like copying it onto the SD card with your PC. Or you attach the tablet to your PC (or fileserver) via USB, declare the tablet to be a portable drive, and copy the files that way. Just a thought.

I'm not trying to dismiss the WiFi issue though. We will look into it and if more people show up with similar problems it's priority might go up.

Thanks either way for your feedback!
